ICF SCAFFOLDING LTD METHOD STATEMENT/RISK ASSESSMENT
This is a generic Method Statement used by ICF Scaffolding Ltd and can be adapted for every different contract.
1. OBJECT - General - To provide a safe place to work and environment for scaffolders to erect and dismantle scaffolds for the use of other trades in pursuance of their work.
2. TRANSPORT - Transport carrying labour and materials to arrive on site and receive instructions on areas to be worked.
3. Report to the site office and all personnel to be inducted by your site management.
4. UNLOADING/LOADING - Materials to be unloaded by hand and carried to the place of initial erection.
5. Main contractor to supply a suitable base around the perimeter of the Buildings.
6. SCAFFOLDERS - All scaffolders involved in the erection and dismantling of scaffold will hold a certificate issued by the C.I.T.B and grade either basic or advanced under the Construction industry scaffolders record scheme and can be produced at any time. Scaffolders will be equipped with safety helmet, safety boots, level, scaffold spanners and safety harnesses.

7. MATERIALS - Steel tube 48.3mm diameter, with a thickness of 4mm manufactured to BS1139 and hot galvanised dipped supplied in lengths up to 6400mm.
8. FITTINGS - All fittings to BS1139.Doubles and swivels are drop forged; sleeves, putlog couplers and base plates are pressed steel.
9. SCAFFOLD BOARDS - Nominal 225mm x 38mm to BS2482. Supplied in 4000mm lengths banded at both ends to prevent splitting and stamped with maximum unsupported length of 1200mm.
10. LADDERS - All ladders to be steel and in good condition.
11. BASEPLATES - Nominal 150mm steel plate with a central welded locating pin.
12. SOLE BOARDS - Timber sole boards are cut off scaffold boards and are generally 225mm long.
13. OTHER ITEMS – Sussex Scaffolding Ltd handing over certificate will be issued on completion of erection of scaffold.

This risk assessment is to be read in conjunction with the relevant method statement.
All materials used shall be visually and physically inspected by the erectors as far as is reasonably practicable prior to use and construction carried out as 'custom and practice'.
Upon completion and prior to use, scaffold shall be certified by ICF as fit for the purpose intended and complies with the Construction Health, Safety and Welfare Regulations 1996.

construction; operators trained in kinetic handling. |

Consultation: |
Discuss clearance and leveling of base area with scaffold |

supervision/employees; discuss any special access requirements or |
|
|
ground conditions before scaffolders start work; supervisor to check at |
|
|
commencement that the above arrangements are in force. |
|
Information |
Ensure scaffolders are informed of the scaffold purpose, eg: for |

instruction: |
bricklayers, painting, cleaning, access only; ensure all employees have |
|
|
a copy of the "Passport to Safety" Booklet; briefing on site associated |
|
|
risks, where necessary, on site safety. |
|
Monitoring: |
Supervision to ensure scaffolds are properly erected before accepting |
|
|
hand over certificate and before being used; weekly inspection of |
|
|
scaffolds and following severe weather or alterations recorded in the |
|
|
F91; ensure platforms or loading bays are not overloaded and |
|
|
materials are not stacked above the handrails; supervisor to re-check |
|
|
arrangements periodically during the job. |
